This time with the world rhythms and sounds that Paul Simon explored since the 60's with Garfunkel..
The horns and the fret less bass are superb
DIAMONDS ON THE SOLES OF HER SHOES
He's a poor boy Empty as a pocket Empty as a pocket with nothing to lose Sing Ta na na Ta na na na She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes Diamonds on the soles of her shoes Diamonds on the soles of her shoes
People say she's crazy She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes Well that's one way to lose these Walking blues Diamonds on the soles of her shoes
She was physically forgotten Then she slipped into my pocket With my car keys She said you've taken me for granted Because I please you Wearing these diamonds
And I could say Oo oo oo As if everybody knows What I'm talking about As if everybody would know Exactly what I was talking about Talking about diamonds on the soles of her shoes
She makes the sign of a teaspoon He makes the sign of a wave The poor boy changes clothes And puts on after-shave To compensate for his ordinary shoes
And she said honey take me dancing But they ended up by sleeping In a doorway By the bodegas and the lights on Upper Broadway Wearing diamonds on the soles of their shoes
And I could say Oo oo oo As if everybody here would know What I was talking about I mean everybody here would know exactly What I was talking about Talking about diamonds
People say I'm crazy I got diamonds on the soles of my shoes Well that's one way to lose These walking blues Diamonds on the soles of your shoes
The first(and last) vinyl record LP I ever stole was The Stray Cats first album..
Which I still have ... I just did it for the sake of being a rebel and a rocker ..
This weekend we were at my friend's birthday party and we were playing only old Rock & roll and skiffle tunes.... like I Saw Her Standing There or Man in constant sorrow...
Me I was playing bass at that moment and.. was crazy to play Rock This Town..
even Brian Setzer's guitar parts are the real rocker licks.... playing rockabilly walking bass is great.
"He was now singing his compositions in three or four octaves that made you want to drive your car over a cliff. He sang like a professional criminal... His voice could jar a corpse, always leave you muttering to yourself something like, 'Man, I don't believe it'"
Bob Dylan
When I read this line in Dylan's Chronicles I underlined it with my pencil...
I remembered Roy's voice ..
I could drive my car over a cliff while this song is playing in the radio...
Roy said this song came to him while sleeping, he dreamed that the radio was announcing a new Elvis song .. then he woke up and wrote it..
The images in the video are from David Lynch's movie Blue Velvet, which I hadn't seen yet..
The producer was Dino de Laurentiis who passed away last week..
Little homage here to all of them..
In Dreams
A candy-colored clown they call the Sandman Tiptoes to my room every night Just to sprinkle stardust and to whisper "Go to sleep, everything is all right"
I close my eyes, then I drift away Into the magic night, I softly say A silent prayer like dreamers do Then I fall asleep to dream my dreams of you
In dreams I walk with you In dreams I talk to you In dreams you're mine all of the time We're together in dreams, in dreams
But just before the dawn I awake and find you gone I can't help it, I can't help it, if I cry I remember that you said goodbye
It's too bad that all these things Can only happen in my dreams Only in dreams In beautiful dreams
I really believe there's nothing one can comment about this song...
Just give yourself a present today..
listen to this song as many times as you want..
then you'll feel a whole lot better..
My head is spinning round, my heart is in my shoes, yeah I went and set the thames on fire, oh, now I must come back down She’s laughing in her sleeve boys, I can feel it in my bones Oh, but anywhere I’m gonna lay my head, I’m gonna call my home
Well I see that the world is upside-down Seems that my pockets were filled up with gold And now the clouds, well they’ve covered over And the wind is blowing cold Well I don’t need anybody, because I learned, I learned to be alone Well I said anywhere, anywhere, anywhere I lay my head, boys Well I gonna call my home
....semi-naked in somebody else's room. I'd give my whole life to see it. Just you, stood there, only in your underwear.
Hard to find more cynical or sweet lyrics than those written by Jarvis Cocker...
UNDERWEAR
Why don't you shut the door, and close the curtains, cos you're not going anywhere. He's coming up the stairs, and in a moment he'll want to see your underwear.
You couldn't stop it now. There's no way to get out. He's standing far too near. How the hell did you get here. Semi-naked in somebody else's room. I'd give my whole life to see it. Just you, stood there, only in your underwear.
If fashion is your trade, then when you're naked, I guess you must be unemployed yeah. Cos once it's underway, there's no escaping, the fact that you're a girl and he's a boy.
You couldn't stop it now. There's no way to get out. He's standing far too near. How the hell did you get here. Semi-naked in somebody else's room. I'd give my whole life to see it. Just you, stood there, only in your underwear.
If you close your eyes and just remember, that this is what you wanted last night. So why is it so hard for you to touch him. For you to go and give yourself to him?
I couldn't stop it now. There's no way to get out. He's standing far too near. How the hell did you get here, semi-naked in somebody else's room. I'd give my whole life to see it. Just you, stood there, only in your underwear.
Do, do do do do. Do, do. Do, do. Do, do, do, do, do. Do, do. Do, do. Oh yeh, I want to see you. Want to see you only in your underwear.
I woke up this morning ... worried in my mind Thinking about ... that girl I left behind I'm worried now ... I won't be worried long
The brownie I love ... makes me sing this song If the blues don't kill me ... they will drill me through and through Woman I love ... don't know what to do
There's one thing in this world ... I cannot understand That's a bow‑legged woman ... crazy about a cross‑eyed man
My and my good mate Luis.. went to see Lemmy's Documentary..
was OK.. but what I'd like was when he and Dave Grohl started talking about Little Richard.. and I remember a rock'n roll oldies record my parents had..
My favorite song was "Long Tall Sally" because it's like a lightning bolt..
The Beatles and Led Zeppelin covered the song later on... and his style was copied from Bowie to Hendrix to Prince..
But nobody could sing like Little Richard.. not even today..
Sometimes when we look for answers we only find more questions...
How can I go forward when I don't know which way I'm facing? How can I go forward when I don't know which way to turn? How can I go forward into something that I'm not sure of? Oh no, Oh no,
How can I have feeling if I don't know if it's a feeling? How can I feel something if I just don't know how to feel, How can I have feelings when my feelings have always been denied? Oh no, Oh no,
How can I give love when I don't know what it is I'm giving? How can I give love when I just don't know how to give? How can I give love when love is something I aint never had? Oh no, Oh no,
You know life can be long, And you have got to be so strong, And the world is so tough sometimes I feel I have had enough, Oh no, Oh no,
How can we go forward when we don't know which way we're facing? How can we go forward when we don't know which way to turn? How go forward into something we're not sure of? Oh no, Oh no
