When I was in Dublin this summertime I was surprised by Rory's guitar hanging from a wall in Temple Bar..
I got to know him specially because Fender made a replica of this guitar.. And I think this is the greatest guitar ever.. It's shred and wormed out .. as an instrument should be
Quite expensive, unluckily... but anyway that's just a memorabilia thing...
Though I wish I would have it..
How he made it ?? Ireland back in the 70's was not an easy place to live in.. not even for making it into rock music.. but there he is..
Tryin' to find a woman who's never, never, never been born.
Spent my days with a woman unkind, Smoked my stuff and drank all my wine. Made up my mind to make a new start, Going To California with an aching in my heart. Someone told me there's a girl out there with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair. Took my chances on a big jet plane, never let them tell you that they're all the same. The sea was red and the sky was grey, wondered how tomorrow could ever follow today. The mountains and the canyons started to tremble and shake as the children of the sun began to awake.
Seems that the wrath of the Gods Got a punch on the nose and it started to flow; I think I might be sinking. Throw me a line if I reach it in time I'll meet you up there where the path Runs straight and high.
To find a queen without a king, They say she plays guitar and cries and sings... la la la Ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn Tryin' to find a woman who's never, never, never been born. Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams, Telling myself it's not as hard, hard, hard as it seems.
An incredible musician who unluckily died when was only 25 years old..
Probably the most gifted guitar player of his generation, a classical trained and charismatic guy who Ozzy hired just after he tuned up his guitar in the audition..
So for guitar players.. to play with feeling, with a feeling that comes from love, the solo in Goodbye to Romance is the perfect example... like a swan song..
I guess I'll never be able to listen to Time of the Season without remembering Homer Simpson becoming a hippie wearing his filthy old poncho in Springfield and getting everybody high with the hallucinogen crops plantation..
that's a milestone of 20th century culture's clash
Quite silly lyrics.. but it's for the sake of good times Rock n Roll !!
I use to sing this with my sister when Skid Row made the cover.. we loved the song..
I'll always love 70's Kiss.. they were the superheros of rock.. and when you are a kid they were the only rock band that were making some fun of themselves..
This time with the world rhythms and sounds that Paul Simon explored since the 60's with Garfunkel..
The horns and the fret less bass are superb
DIAMONDS ON THE SOLES OF HER SHOES
He's a poor boy Empty as a pocket Empty as a pocket with nothing to lose Sing Ta na na Ta na na na She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes Diamonds on the soles of her shoes Diamonds on the soles of her shoes
People say she's crazy She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes Well that's one way to lose these Walking blues Diamonds on the soles of her shoes
She was physically forgotten Then she slipped into my pocket With my car keys She said you've taken me for granted Because I please you Wearing these diamonds
And I could say Oo oo oo As if everybody knows What I'm talking about As if everybody would know Exactly what I was talking about Talking about diamonds on the soles of her shoes
She makes the sign of a teaspoon He makes the sign of a wave The poor boy changes clothes And puts on after-shave To compensate for his ordinary shoes
And she said honey take me dancing But they ended up by sleeping In a doorway By the bodegas and the lights on Upper Broadway Wearing diamonds on the soles of their shoes
And I could say Oo oo oo As if everybody here would know What I was talking about I mean everybody here would know exactly What I was talking about Talking about diamonds
People say I'm crazy I got diamonds on the soles of my shoes Well that's one way to lose These walking blues Diamonds on the soles of your shoes
The first(and last) vinyl record LP I ever stole was The Stray Cats first album..
Which I still have ... I just did it for the sake of being a rebel and a rocker ..
This weekend we were at my friend's birthday party and we were playing only old Rock & roll and skiffle tunes.... like I Saw Her Standing There or Man in constant sorrow...
Me I was playing bass at that moment and.. was crazy to play Rock This Town..
even Brian Setzer's guitar parts are the real rocker licks.... playing rockabilly walking bass is great.
"He was now singing his compositions in three or four octaves that made you want to drive your car over a cliff. He sang like a professional criminal... His voice could jar a corpse, always leave you muttering to yourself something like, 'Man, I don't believe it'"
Bob Dylan
When I read this line in Dylan's Chronicles I underlined it with my pencil...
I remembered Roy's voice ..
I could drive my car over a cliff while this song is playing in the radio...
Roy said this song came to him while sleeping, he dreamed that the radio was announcing a new Elvis song .. then he woke up and wrote it..
The images in the video are from David Lynch's movie Blue Velvet, which I hadn't seen yet..
The producer was Dino de Laurentiis who passed away last week..
Little homage here to all of them..
In Dreams
A candy-colored clown they call the Sandman Tiptoes to my room every night Just to sprinkle stardust and to whisper "Go to sleep, everything is all right"
I close my eyes, then I drift away Into the magic night, I softly say A silent prayer like dreamers do Then I fall asleep to dream my dreams of you
In dreams I walk with you In dreams I talk to you In dreams you're mine all of the time We're together in dreams, in dreams
But just before the dawn I awake and find you gone I can't help it, I can't help it, if I cry I remember that you said goodbye
It's too bad that all these things Can only happen in my dreams Only in dreams In beautiful dreams
I really believe there's nothing one can comment about this song...
Just give yourself a present today..
listen to this song as many times as you want..
then you'll feel a whole lot better..
My head is spinning round, my heart is in my shoes, yeah I went and set the thames on fire, oh, now I must come back down She’s laughing in her sleeve boys, I can feel it in my bones Oh, but anywhere I’m gonna lay my head, I’m gonna call my home
Well I see that the world is upside-down Seems that my pockets were filled up with gold And now the clouds, well they’ve covered over And the wind is blowing cold Well I don’t need anybody, because I learned, I learned to be alone Well I said anywhere, anywhere, anywhere I lay my head, boys Well I gonna call my home
....semi-naked in somebody else's room. I'd give my whole life to see it. Just you, stood there, only in your underwear.
Hard to find more cynical or sweet lyrics than those written by Jarvis Cocker...
UNDERWEAR
Why don't you shut the door, and close the curtains, cos you're not going anywhere. He's coming up the stairs, and in a moment he'll want to see your underwear.
You couldn't stop it now. There's no way to get out. He's standing far too near. How the hell did you get here. Semi-naked in somebody else's room. I'd give my whole life to see it. Just you, stood there, only in your underwear.
If fashion is your trade, then when you're naked, I guess you must be unemployed yeah. Cos once it's underway, there's no escaping, the fact that you're a girl and he's a boy.
You couldn't stop it now. There's no way to get out. He's standing far too near. How the hell did you get here. Semi-naked in somebody else's room. I'd give my whole life to see it. Just you, stood there, only in your underwear.
If you close your eyes and just remember, that this is what you wanted last night. So why is it so hard for you to touch him. For you to go and give yourself to him?
I couldn't stop it now. There's no way to get out. He's standing far too near. How the hell did you get here, semi-naked in somebody else's room. I'd give my whole life to see it. Just you, stood there, only in your underwear.
Do, do do do do. Do, do. Do, do. Do, do, do, do, do. Do, do. Do, do. Oh yeh, I want to see you. Want to see you only in your underwear.
I woke up this morning ... worried in my mind Thinking about ... that girl I left behind I'm worried now ... I won't be worried long
The brownie I love ... makes me sing this song If the blues don't kill me ... they will drill me through and through Woman I love ... don't know what to do
There's one thing in this world ... I cannot understand That's a bow‑legged woman ... crazy about a cross‑eyed man
My and my good mate Luis.. went to see Lemmy's Documentary..
was OK.. but what I'd like was when he and Dave Grohl started talking about Little Richard.. and I remember a rock'n roll oldies record my parents had..
My favorite song was "Long Tall Sally" because it's like a lightning bolt..
The Beatles and Led Zeppelin covered the song later on... and his style was copied from Bowie to Hendrix to Prince..
But nobody could sing like Little Richard.. not even today..
Sometimes when we look for answers we only find more questions...
How can I go forward when I don't know which way I'm facing? How can I go forward when I don't know which way to turn? How can I go forward into something that I'm not sure of? Oh no, Oh no,
How can I have feeling if I don't know if it's a feeling? How can I feel something if I just don't know how to feel, How can I have feelings when my feelings have always been denied? Oh no, Oh no,
How can I give love when I don't know what it is I'm giving? How can I give love when I just don't know how to give? How can I give love when love is something I aint never had? Oh no, Oh no,
You know life can be long, And you have got to be so strong, And the world is so tough sometimes I feel I have had enough, Oh no, Oh no,
How can we go forward when we don't know which way we're facing? How can we go forward when we don't know which way to turn? How go forward into something we're not sure of? Oh no, Oh no
... A resonator and the slide on my hands of a lonely wooden house in the prairie...
Running To Stand Still
And so she woke up Woke up from where she was lyin’ still. Said I gotta do something About where we’re goin’. Step on a steam train Step out of the driving rain, maybe Run from the darkness in the night. Singing ah, ah la la la de day Ah la la la de day.
Sweet the sin, bitter the taste in my mouth. I see seven towers, but I only see one way out. You gotta cry without weeping, talk without speaking Scream without raising your voice. You know I took the poison, from the poison stream Then I floated out of here, singing Ah la la la de day Ah la la la de day.
She walks through the streets With her eyes painted red Under black belly of cloud in the rain. In through a doorway She brings me white golden pearls Stolen from the sea. She is ragin’ She is ragin’
And the storm blows up in her eyes. She will suffer the needle chill She’s running to stand still.
Led Zeppelin III is known as their acoustic album..
but the first song is Immigrant Song ...
About Scandinavian mythology and warfare
Maybe the most heavy tune they ever recorded..
(from wikipedia.org) Valhalla is a majestic, enormous hall located in Asgard, ruled over by the God Odin. Chosen by him, half of those that die in combat travel to Valhalla upon death, led by Valkyries, while the other half go to the goddess Freyja's field Fólkvangr.
This is the one where they evoke the Hammer Of The Gods..
That's the title of the infamous biographythat they'd always dismiss..
The film Almost Famous is somehow based on the groupie phenomenon that happened in the first part of the 70's to Led Zeppelin back then..
Director Cameron Crowe himself wrote liner notes for Led Zeppelin's The Song Remains The Same live record, when he was just 17 years old.. He was already working for Rolling Stone since 1972.. enough said..
Who wouldn't want to be part of those days ?
Immigrant Song
A-ah-ahh-ah, ah-ah-ahh-ah We come from the land of the ice and snow from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands To fight the horde and sing and cry, Valhalla, I am coming
On we sweep with, with threshing oar Our only goal will be the western shore
Ah-ah-ahh-ah, ah-ah-ahh-ah We come from the land of the ice and snow from the midnight sun where the hot springs FLOW How soft your fields, so green can whisper tales of gore, of how we calmed the tides of war We are your overlords
On we sweep with, with threshing oar Our only goal will be the western shore
S-so now you better stop and rebuild all your ruins for peace and trust can winthe day despite of all you're losin' Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh Ahh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh
So I never knew this song existed... !! It was on the bootleg series from Dylan... and then on the Legacy Edition of Jeff Buckley's Grace...
How come this song is not on any official release being as good as it is.. ?
this little hidden gem...
Dylan once again is undressing our feelings.. with such plain words and simple pictures.. the soul of a man trapped in the cell of love-sickness..
I really prefer Jeff Buckley's demos than his official recordings.. because it's like when he was playing in Sin-E and nobody knew who he was..
Mama, you been on my mind.
Perhaps it is the color of the sun cut flat An' cov'rin' the crossroads I'm standing at, Or maybe it's the weather or something like that, But mama, you been on my mind.
I mean no trouble, please don't put me down, don’t get upset, I am not pleading or saying that "I can't forget you." I do not pace the floor bowed down and bent, but yet, Mama, you been on my mind.
Even though my eyes are hazy and my thoughts they might be narrow, Where you been don't bother me or bring me down in sorrow. I don't even mind who you'll be waking with tomorrow, But mama, you're just on my mind.
I am not askin' you to say words like "yes" or "no," Please understand me, I have no place I’m callin’ you to go. I'm just whispering to myself so I can't pretend that I don't know, But mama, you're just on my mind.
When you wake up in the mornin' and look inside your mirror, You know I won't be next to you, you know I won't be near. I'd just be curious to know if you can see yourself as clear As someone who has had you on his mind.
Well lately I feel like saying that when they ask me how am I ...
Funny How Time Slips Away (by Willie Nelson)
Well hello there my it's been a long long time How am I doin' oh I guess that I'm doin' fine It's been so long now but it seems now it was only yesterday Gee ain't it funny how time slips away How's your new love I hope that he's doing fine Heard you told him that you'd love him till the end of time Now that's the same thing that you told me seems like just the other day Gee ain't it funny how time slips away I gotta go now I guess I'll see you around Don't know when though never know when I'll be back in town But remember what I tell you that in time you're gonna pay And it's surprising how time slips away
